MedSeaRise: Latest Updates

04/07/2024

Five weeks ago, the MedSeaRise team posted a mean surface height anomaly visualization in Malta. Thanks to the scientific team of this co-funded project, all project partners have access to recent datasets. These datasets will be used to prepare documents and raise awareness during meetings with stakeholders.

According to the Representative Concentration Pathway 8.5 scenario (IPCC) and an ensemble of EURO-CORDEX projections, near-surface air temperature in Nice will tend to increase throughout the XXI century, reaching values of almost +1 °C by 2030 and more than +4 °C by the end of the century, compared to the 1986-2005 average.
Even though this information relies on recent data, its objective is not to be exhaustive, but to mainly serve as a tool for discussion and debate with stakeholders.

Questions such as, “What are the main consequences of variations in sea level, air temperature, and precipitation on your activities today and in the future?” and “How do you plan to adapt your coastline activities?” will help clarify each stakeholder’s engagement and their knowledge for the project’s activities.
