 MedSeaRise Meeting in Malta!

The University of Malta recently hosted a pivotal meeting for the MedSeaRise project, an initiative involving partners from across the Mediterranean — including Greece, Italy, France, Spain, Montenegro , and Malta — to address the critical issue of sea level rise.

This two-day event, held on the 1st and 2nd of April, brought together experts to develop strategies for safeguarding coastal communities and ecosystems.

In this project, the University of Malta leads Work Package 2, which focuses on creating a detailed Impact Assessment Framework to analyse the potential impacts of rising sea levels on Mediterranean coastlines. Attendees reviewed progress made so far on various case studies, exchanged technical insights, and discussed strategies to extend the impact of the project.

Moreover, Julia Bonello from The Energy and Water Agency provided insights into Malta’s water sources, discussed advanced water management technologies like desalination and reclaimed water.

Finally, Varvara Bougiouri from Natural Heritage Mission has also participated in the meeting, monitoring the project’s progress and presenting the Mission’s initiatives and actions, and potential synergies with MedSeaRise.

Don’t forget to watch the whole video from the meeting here.
